Hi folks,

Twelve years ago, "Jeff in BC" published a thread on FordBarn called "Marvel carb disection," which included detailed annotated photos and diagrams explaining how the Marvel carb works. Until now, that thread has remained the best available primer on the Marvel carb.

With Jeff's permission, and with extensive assistance from professional carb rebuilders Dave Renner and Dennis Shedrow, I have updated and reorganized his thread into a coherent article.

"A Workshop Guide to the Marvel-Schebler Carburetor for the Ford Model A: How it works, how to take it apart, and how to put it right" is now available for free.

I have posted it as a PDF e-book, suitable for printing and binding.

It's also available as a web page. The URL of this page will change as soon as I can find it a permanent home.

Please send me a DM if you identify any errors, I'll start making a list of things to revise in the next edition.

Probably like 'what oil to use'?

With a stock Model A engine using a 'B' intake, which might preform better, 'B' carb or Marvel ?

A B carb, properly rebuilt, flows more air than the Marvel, but is less efficient. So depends on your definition of better.
