49 F1 Flathead 6

Years ago, I bought an old F1 like the OP's. I planned to switch the six for a V8. In talking to an old junk yard guy about my plan, he told me to keep the six. It has better torque than the V8 and starts much better when cold. Living in Montana at the time, I never gave another thought to switching to the V8.

I like the truck but isnt that a 51/52 front bumper? seems like I remeber them smooth not ribbed from 48 to 50. Tim

I have no idea. But, there is damage to the panel below the grill behind the bumper. So the original bumper may have been trashed. It was a farm truck.

While trying to turn the engine over - - I discovered a hand crank hole behind the license plate and a hand crank in the bed. That is when I discovered the damage - - as the hand crank would not go through. The crankshaft pulley bolt does not fit this crank handle. Either the bolt has been replaced or ......
I "data centered" it. The OE bolt appears to have the notches for this crank handle.
Engine is still locked - - I haven't had much time to mess with it yet.

Yes, the OE front bumpers were smooth faced on the 48-50 models.
