Source for 11” front drums(48-52 F1?)

Re: Source for 11” front drums(48-52 F1?)

F-1 spindles have the same kingpin diameter .812 and inclination as '48 & earlier Ford car and pick-up spindles. The L/H spindle has a bolt thru steering arm; while the R/H spindle has an integral arm with one eye for the tie rod.

F-100 spindles have a larger kingpin .857 and different inclination than F-1 & earlier spindles. Both spindles have bolt on arms and are the same.

From the flange (same bolt pattern) outward the snouts are identical.

Backing plates are the same from '48-'56. Most stamped Bendix some later ones have Ford script & KH part number.

Thanks for the info!
3twinridges your not hijacking,
My next question was going to be, what spindle exactly am I looking for?
Rich,
Thank you for the detailed parts list, it will be a big help!

Another thing I thought of was adapting the wire wheels to the drum. I know speedway makes a support ring for the wheel.

Another thing I thought of was adapting the wire wheels to the drum. I know speedway makes a support ring for the wheel.

Flat faced drums like F-1 & F-100 front brakes and later model rears do not play nice with Ford wire wheels.

Speedway makes thick spacers that move the wheels out to clear the drums (they also incorporate the support for the inner lip of the wheel.

Two problems (at least to me) is the increase in scrub radius and outward wheel movement.

If wire wheels are a requirement; a better choice would be Boling Bros reproduction Lincoln brakes and either their new drums or good original Ford drums.

In either case; a thin wire wheel support ring is needed for proper wheel mounting.

Note: If using Ford drums with the flange on the outside of the drum; check for balance weights (look like welded on chunks of round rod) on the drum, they will need to be removed or they will interfere and the wheel will be deformed when torqued down.
