Sadly Ralph, you are correct. It is an entirely different country now and not for the better when it comes to patriotism nationwide. As the vets of WW II pass on, the war will be forgotten just like WW I - unmentioned and forgotten. Our youth are at a crossroad and have much to learn - hopefully not the hard way.
Those who fought and died for our country are never forgotten, from the smallest skirmish in the least known conflict to the largest battles of World Wars, all are Heroes of the highest order.
Here in Australia ( Melbourne ) I watched three documentaries until two AM in the morning. They said around 10,000 killed in that landing. Boy do we owe them our very existence. All heroes. Lest we forget them ever. Regards, Kevin.
My Dad is 102 yr old one-armed amputee WWII vet and is still with. But not too many more remain I am afraid. They will be all gone all too soon - it is sad but if it weren't for them, we would not be here ..... their stories need to be told over and over again ....
Tom, Please convey Thanks from all Fordbarners to your dad for his service and sacrifice.
He is truly very, very special. I hope he has recorded his experiences for posterity. Our youth needs to know and never forget. You too are Blessed to have such a fine dad.
Thank you for posting.
Thank you - I will do that. Yes, he has been recorded, leads the Veterans Day parade here in the Burg every year and is quite the character. He is affectionally known as Lefty to all who know him. I could write volumes about him, his life, what he's done, and what he continues to do.
Thanks to your dad and others, Tom. My mom's younger brother was wounded in the Normandy Beach landing, and is still with us at 101. He's still driving and working on his old cars and trucks. Uncle Leroy, he's a "dandy".
