How old is too old to work on Model A's???

Hello. My master plan is to stop work on cars a year and a day after I am dead .Almost 74 now, hopefully have a few more to go.

I am 83 & I got up this morning so I can go outside and work on my Model "A" Victoria. I lay a blanket down on the driveway so I can kneel without hurting my knees. I takes me about 5 minutes to get from under the car. When back muscles start to ache, I sit down for 15 minutes or so.
When a job is too big for me to handle, I have a Play Day. I invite some Model "A" club guys over to do the job and I supply coffee, bagels, pizza & soft drinks. Another tactic I use is to trade parts for work.

Half the fun of owning a ford model A. is being able to work on it and enjoy your accomplishments when the job is finished at least that's what I keep telling myself whenever I get into a job that's quite tough and hurts my back!!!

I have reached the point where I could no longer get "down & under" the A so I opted for a unique solution. I ordered an "Aeocreeper" and and it reopened the "down & under" option I can't live without. It is an electric up/down creeper runs on a Milwaukee drill battery and is amazing! It was designed for the private aircraft industry so is VERY pricey. At this point in my life I decided I deserved it and it is a Godsend. I'm just now dropping body onto the chassis so it's up/down 12-15 times a day. The only drawback besides the price is it requires 3" more clearance which is OK with jack stands.

I wanted to take my old two post down last week, and start putting up the 4 post I bought. My left elbow is kind of mishapen, with a few lumps in it,and acts up every few years.Funny thing is that I have no idea what happened to it.It just acts up right of the blue,no reason. Can't push, pull,or pick up anything when it happens.Lots of pain. Then one day,it just goes away, just residual soreness, but I can work as normal.I put that lift up there all by myself 25 or 26 years ago, thought nothing of it.Now I'm studying on how to take it down. Now I'm acting old.Overthinking it.I just need to bolt a couple of chains to the lift posts, bolt them to the forks, and twist the Bobcat so the posts drop under the forks in front of me.I posted an ad for the old lift before my elbow acted up,now I'm getting calls but it is stil standing.I'm already dreaming up things to do on the new lift that I have been putting off.The new,(used) lift has two rolling jacks.I've worked with those,I love them. The Challenger is a great lift, but too hard on the body to arrange the pads.

Keith, sell your 2 post "As is, where is" and let the buyer worry about taking it down.

Katy,I've thought about that, but those days seem to be gone.I have had a couple of people look into hiring it done also. The price for that seemed to be $600.That's not going to work. And,for the most part I'm not going to have a bunch of guys come into my shop and start horsing around the 800 pound lift post assemblies unless they have proof of insurance. Then, most of the guys that do have proof of insurance aren't fooling around with an $800.lift anyway.I have looked at 4 post lifts for the last year or so,and have seen a lot of,buyer is responsible for removal. Some of those ads have been there for a year now.

I'm 89, and had a major stroke 12 years ago, it affected my whole right side, bummer. the stroke affected my balance, so I have broken my hip, a few ribs, cracked a vertebrae, and use a walker. I gave my 'A' to our son because I could no longer keep my foot on the brake. I still do cams and heads, and ship them. I rarely have to open doors for myself because there are a lot of really good people that open them for me, some even offer to carry them inside for me. My wife, only 87, helps me a lot, thank god for her! So, hang in there guys, you can do more than you think!

"Thanks for the pep talk, Jim"

See??? Jim IS actually good for SOMETHING!!! Ha, ha, ha!

I admire your spunk, Jim. Keep churning out those camshafts for the rest of us to enjoy. Jim's cams are great, Folks. 'Really turned on a couple engines I rebuilt for friends. 'Glad you're still in the hobby, Jim. You've done a lot for it over the years.

Fullraceflathead: My step son has already laid claim to it, he's looking for a place in his shop to use it as it takes up quite a bit more space to move around. I discovered I can just sit on it too, adds another dimension to work on the car. It also makes a nice TV chair.

As the old saying goes: "Work fascinates me. I could watch it for hours!" :)
I think Ray has found the secret to "working" on old cars with his widget creeper. 'Kinda hard to take along on road trips though, isn't it??? Ha, ha, ha!
