Air conditioning question

I know that the front mounted emergency brake lever must be shortened if you are installing and air conditioner unit from Ken Davis. If someone has done this, can you give me the amount that has to be removed.

I have ordered a unit from Ken and would like to get the lever shortened while I am waiting for it to arrive.

Couldn't you just adjust the handle for more slack, then leave it pulled part way back when not engaged? I can't imagine having to cut the E-brake handle.

Tom, thanks for the suggestion.

I have it adjusted that way, it sets the brake on the last notch. But I have been told that you have to remove some from the length of the handle. Repo handle so I am not concerned with altering it.

I have the original handle but I want the car to be able to be restored back if someone doesn't want the air after me.

Age and health pretty much made the decision for me to put in air conditioning. As I understand it, the Ken Davis unit can be installed without permanently altering the car.

I just put one in and didn't have to shorten the handle. I just moved the adjustment back.

I am in the process of putting the Ken Davis AC unit in my early 29 blindback and with the brake lever in the front of the shift lever I cannot see a way to adjust it back 3 or 4 clicks where there would be one or two clicks left on the ratchet to set the brake and have the lever far enough back to miss the evaporator.

Jordan could you post some pictures.

Jordan, they have earlier cars with ebrake in front of shifter, not the side.

Kens kit comes with a bracket that adapts the side ebrake mount to allow for the handle to tilt more toward the seat.

You could change your shift tower to a side ebrake and use his supplied bracket and cut or shorten nothing but the wooden floor board just a little to account for the new position of the brake handle.
