OT: Inside a modern Chinese car factory

When Ford stopped producing cars here in Australia, they had a safety rating of 5 stars. When they tried substituting the Mustang, it earned a rating of 2 stars while NO Chinese cars scored so low. Most people here now regard anything GM or Ford as just another second rate foreign car. The Korean and Chinese cars are taking over very quickly.
Interestingly, those GM and Ford cars have engines made in China for the most part.

Hey Mates,
Don't forget the Burtz.

Yes, that too. IMO, it is certainly NOT a negative that it is made in China.
To those who criticise anything made in China just because it is made i China, it would do you good to visit the country some day. You'll be amazed.

GM moved most of their engineering and development to China. They love the place. No unions, no healthcare costs, no retirement plans, cheap labor. For US built cars there are up to $5,000 in legacy costs. That's the money that goes to the retirees to pay their healthcare and retirement.

I was the guest of the owner of a chinese factory, was treated to the complete tour.
It was self contained— at the rear was a dormitory with child care and its own medical facilities.
They had several contracts, one was for Xbox cables and they were testing every one ,the other contract they tested none of them— it was interesting because the owner said they purposely delivered some bad ones to see if they had complaints.
So if you don’t do your own quality control and call them on defects they increase the quantity of defects.
I did get a really good dinner at a fancy restaurant.

Does anyone here think that it is acceptable for a manufacturer to send out to “puroposely send out some bad ones to see if anyone complains” is acceptable????

My background is in quality control and I've worked that all my life. I retired last year. Unfortunately many companies today choose to have no quality control!!! They accept a percentage of returns because in their eyes it's cheaper than having a staff a quality control Department!!! This is very sad considering Defective parts are definitely being sent out to paying customers!!!
It used to be that a customer was a customer for life based on Quality Manufacturing and Companies Standing by their Product, Name and Reputation!!!
In today’s world it is more about the first purchase and profit margin and little to do with quality, reputation or reliability sadly!!!

I wonder what the engineers at the Model A plant would think of the manufacturing techniques used today. Conversely I wonder what today's automotive engineers would think of manufacturing techniques 100 years in the future. What do think that will be like?

I predict a lot more AI and humanoid robots. I see the manufacturing robots, like the ones doing the welding and moving of parts, self-correcting themselves and maybe figuring how to the manufacturing without human programming. Or maybe cars will just be 3D printed.

I can recall when made in Japan was a slur . US has lost lot of its manufacturing capabilities, WW 2 probably would not have been won if not for the mass production of military equipment. Was brand loyalty years ago, my Great Uncle Lynn was a Buick man .

There's a lot of wonderful modern technologies in manufacturing today that is available to anyone any country America needs to bring a majority of that back to America and keep it in America!!!
