Split Piston Directon

Hello,

I had a broken piston and was very fortunate to have an old timer give me a set of NOS pistons and rings (The box and original paperwork is a work of art on it's own). Unfortunately, I am ready to do the install and my Model A book states that the new new pistons do not have a split so it does not matter which direction they are installed. Great - unless you have a perfect set of NOS split pistons! Can someone offer any advice?

Thanks.

Split always away from the Cam side, or to the left side of the engine. Herm.

OK, I pressed out two of the pistons that were installed incorrectly and I was on a roll. Gave a great speech to my daughter about how it's ok to make mistakes as long as you learn from them. Well, on piston number 3, pressing back in the pin and POW - piston breaks... Several cuss words later I say it's ok becuase I am learning - the HARD way!

I lost my dad back in 87 and I have had to relearn all of this stuff that he knew inside out. I guess I still have plenty to learn - the hard way.

All the Model A pistons I've seen or used NEVER required any pressing to get the wrist pins in or out. Just remove the retainer clips and they should easily tap or push out. The original pistons used a center clip and may need a bit more tap, but not a press to remove them.
