Fyi, after what seems like forever being out of stock, Bob Drake finally found a new supplier for the 1940 Bumper Guards! Price went up a bit, but great to finally have a set. Still way cheaper than getting originals re-chromed.

I'm seeing several online stores start to carry them as well again now that Drake has them.

Figured some of you might be hunting for them as I was.

Too bad they don't fit authentic bumper bars properly.

I can't help but wonder why it is that a manufacturer would make a product and NOT finalize the design until after checking the fit with an original bumper?

Profit margin. The tighter the tolerance, the higher cost to produce.

Accuracy and precision. Accuracy is how close you get your standard to the original specifications. Precision is how much you deviate from your standard. Accuracy costs during research and engineering. Precision often costs per part.

A part can be horribly inaccurate with great precision. All junk (almost) exactly the same. Another part can be very accurate with horrible precision. Most junk, some close, a few right on.

Agreed to most of this. I've seen many parts made cheaply that are not even close. In the WW2 Jeep community these many instances of this when it comes to body panels.

So far, the set of these reproduction guards (I got a set from Drake that arrived last week) are lining up and looking good compared to the originals I have on both my original and reproduction bumpers. So, for me at least, I have four good ones from this initial batch. I guess YMMV, but worked for me.
