If I could ask a favor. -- On a '28-29 pickup with original cab and bed locations, how wide is the gap between the back of the cab and bed, measured at the top of the bed panel? Thanks,

Bob

Bob,
I get a measurment of about 3/8" to 7/16" on the one I have that is straight. This is measured at the center of the bed panel to a flat spot on the rear center of the cab.

Bob, the important measurement you need is the spacing at the vertical join-strips for the rear/side cab panels and the pickup front panel. The cab and pickup bodies are located via the body bolts. Consequently, spacing is not adjustable.

Sorry, I only have an AA express (similar to the pickup body). My express has 1/8" spacing at one join-strip and 3/8" at the other join-strip. Original spacing would have been equal.

My early '29 is 3/4" between the bed and back body panel. Note that an early '28 OCPU with the integral subframe for body and bed will have a shorter distance between the two.

Thanks to everyone for the input. I know a question about the cab/bed gap may seem odd, but I fabricated my A frame from scratch and am trying to get the bed location as accurate as possible relative to the cab. With acknowledgement that this section of the forum isn't for hot rods, a photo may better illustrate what I'm working with so here you go. Nostalgia style build powered by a '42 Mercury V8.

Rather than start a new thread I thought I'd bump this one. I'm building a 28/29 RPU, and wondering what the correct measurement should be? If I aim for 1/2-3/4", is that going to look correct?

Probably. Some of the vendors sell a "dust shield" which is designed to fill the gap between the body and the bed. I suspect it was more commonly used on the 30-31 pickup (curved body) but is sold as applicable to either. My 29 pickup didn't have one.

Snyders part A-878 $77. The shield seems "L" shaped and about 4" on each side. Snyders claims used on ALL years except 31 wide bed.

I have one of those, but I'm unclear on how it's supposed to fit. I've never seen a truck with one.

In any case I'm not sure if using that as a guide will solve it for me, due to the body I'm working with (front half of phaeton becoming a hot rod roadster pickup with repro roadster pickup cab pieces).

Here's a picture of the bed panel.

That's not at all what I expected. I had in mind a leg of the metal pointing "up" on the backside of the cab - and the other leg extending "out" under the bed.

Do you have a pix showing the bolt attachment to the body blocks?

thanks in advance,

Mine wasn't actually bolted to the body blocks,it was just pinched between the wood and the top of the frame.
