Speedometer Cable

Today I decided to try and figure out the issue with my speedometer not working. I knew the top side was connected (1930 Cabriolet, about a March build date, round speedometer) to the dash, so I crawled under. I disconnected it at the gear case and quickly discovered the cable was snapped off about 3-4” up. I pulled the broken piece out and the reconnected the cable housing as we were going to go on a short tour with our club. I wasn’t planning on setting land speed records, so I wasn’t too worried about speeding.

When I got home I dug out a spare cable that I had for the round speedometer. I lubed it up and was about to start pulling the car apart when I compared the end of the old cable to the spare. The broken cable has the Oval speedometer end on the gear case side. So it doesn’t match the spare. Again, the car has a round speedometer, but had an oval speedometer cable. Is that a parts bin crossover thing of Henry using stuff up that could have happened or is there something funky going on here?

Could be someone in the last 95 years installed an oval speedo “turtle” and cable on your car. Why? I don’t have a clue.

I guess nobody has any experience with speedometer cables.
There is different cables for the round and oval speedometers-Oval is part #17260-A-.120 square end at the speedometer with dyed end at drive end.and Round is 17260-B- has a .104 square end at both ends.
