I am trying to remove the stock carb on our 47 Mercury
to clean it. We had old gas in tank that was ran thru carb.
I have replaced tank, fuel pump, sender. I want to throughly
clean carb.
I have removed the 2 bolts holding carb onto manifold.
Removed all linkage etc.
The carb will rock back and forth, but will not lift off.
I placed screw drivers under carb 4 places and tried prying it off.
I am afraid that I am going to break something.
Is there a trick to removing the carbs?
Is there something else that maybe still attached that I can't see?
My manual say to just remove the 2 bolts, then remove carb.

Thanks for any suggestions.

That's ok, Bob. These guys are handy with all kinds of "tips"
Let me give you another "restoration tip" that I recently discovered the hard way.
While removing the coveted tail light lense on the 49 Ford to replace a bad bulb first ACQUIRE A FULL--SIZED KING SIZE MATTRESS AND CENTER IT DIRECTLY BELOW THE WORK AREA!...slim

When I was a kid, I destroyed BOTH of my '48's original taillight lenses that way in a few minutes while rewiring the car...talk about a slow learner!! At least that was long enough ago that it was only about a 50 cent disaster...

3 bolts, 3 bolts, 3 bolts!
I see said the blind man!
I didn't see the bolt between the 2 idle adjusting screws.
Thanks for all replies.

I've learned that if I you don't know how to repair or fix a problem its OK to ask, you can always learn from others. That is what the forum is for. 45 years and still building hot rods at home and sometimes stumped.
