Interior door handle removal tool

Third Gen Auto sells an interior door handle removal tool and I saw a tool on eBay that sort of looks like a pitch fork. I tried to make a tool to compress the spring so you can get the pin out on window cranks and door handles but it doesn't work very well. Does anyone have a recommendation for a tool to remove the interior door handles on my 1940 Tudor?

I like that removal tool sold by Third Generation. Lets you compress the spring with your chest and still have two hands to finagle the pin out.

I used a pickle fork and a piece of drill rod to take them off and the pickle fork and pointy pliers to put them back on. Dont put any pressure on the door handle with the tool that only acts to trap the pin.

So you used the pickle fork to push on the escution? You didn't use the pickle fork to wedge in between the handle and escution?

Never wedge the handle always push on the escutcheon only. The handle should be free to move when the escutcheon is pressed in.

Today I removed the lock and the latch assembly. To remove the door handle and window handle I noticed there is an additional through hole 90º offset from the pin. I inserted two Allen wrenches in the empty holes to hold back the spring loaded escutcheon and easily used a punch to drive out the pin.

To note:when I removed the lock assembly I was anticipating rust. I've heard the stories on how this small allen screw gets rusted/gummed up and it is a bear to remove. The sun was shining, birds singing... came right out. Whew.

You should go and buy a lottery ticket! You might be on a winning streak.
