'36 Grill Trim Problem

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to install the little pretzel shaped trim clips into the back of the trim pieces either side of a '36 grill without damaging it? They won't slide in from the end and I'd hate to force them in from the back side.

They have to slide in and be adjustable(moveable). I think you may have the wrong clips. You need clips that are made from smaller wire so they slide into the open bottom of the trim. Where did you get the clips?

While far from original; I gave up on the clips and used stainless machine screws with the flats sanded on opposite sides of the heads so the they just slipped into the ends of the trim pieces. A very small flat washer, star lock washer, and nut secured them. Easy other than chasing down the screws that went flying while sanding the heads.

I ran into the same problem along with the hood side trim. I got my clips from Carpenter also and it was a chore to get them installed. I think the wire gauge of the clip is too large making them difficult to install in the molding and so strong almost denting my hood side trying to get them installed even while using pliers to collapse the clip! The few original clips I had were very easy to install and clip in the hole! I hope someone has a source for the correct clips I still have three moldings to install!

Yes, the trim is repro. I don't recall which supplier I got them from but thr clips are Dennis Carpenter.

I had just recently used Carpenter's clips on my trim. They worked perfectly. It did take a little finesse to get them located within the trim properly. However, I'm talking a few minutes at most.
The issue is not the repro clips but rather, the repro trim. The trim is nice for certain but not an exact replica.

A neat idea! I'll look into trying that. Thanks.
