wiper vacuum tube on 1936

the old vacuum tube that screws into the intake manifold is not really tight, not sure how a good vacuum is drawn. Purchased a new one and like the old one the tube end on the screw side is straight as well? Wouldn't these be flared so the screw fitting would "pull" it in tight to manifold? Was expecting something more like a flared end. Any thoughts?

No the tube is straight until the fitting is tightened down. The brass end of the fitting then crimps to the side of the tubing.

after putting new one in (third Gen) it did not crimp the pipe. Brass threaded plug bottomed out, pipe still got some wiggle.
Should there be a piece in the intake manifold that possibly i am missing?
or did I chicken out and not really crank it down tight enough. Tough to get at, and I did not want to strip the heads of the plug.

Here is a pic of how the tubing extends pass the tip of the fitting when seated correctly.
