1935 Pickup dash gauge

I am in the process of swapping my original 1935 pickup (deluxe/dual gauges) for new Stewart Warner Wings gauges. The stock gauges are about a quarter inch bigger in diameter thean the SW gauges, any suggestions

Take the new gauge to a plumbing supply place like HD and see if u can find a bushing you can modify to fit ID and OD.
Seems like someone made aluminum "rings" as and adapter years ago.

The HAMB is probably a better place to ask this question.

I installed AutoMeter gauges in my 48 dash and they were also smaller than stock. I used the bottom of a plastic can or bottle (think coffee container) to cut a ring to fill the space. I was able to utilize the outer base curve as it was the correct diameter. It actually worked pretty well.

e-Bay shows some panel inserts that will take the Stewart-Warner gauges.

I will post pictures as I go. I have taken the origibal gauges out of the gauge frame work. I then cut the back of the frame to allow the new gauge to "sit" inside the original front/glass area. I plan to glue it in place at this pint. The benefit is the original look of the 1935 bezel will fit exactly in the dash. The modified rear part of the frame will bolt back in place . The back of these dashes is small & tight. Everything must be done from the rear. I am at the same ime installing a Stewart Warner Survey speedometer., its the same outside diameter as the stock speedometer. I am fabricating a ring/tab to hold it in place using the stock mounting.

I wish someone had not cut out the dash to my 1935 truck for larger instruments a long time ago. The speedometer hole wasn't touched but that didn't really matter as I had to replace the smaller holes on either side.

I had to find a donor dash with good studs (a truck in the woods and mostly into the ground) and then cut, weld in and replace, metal finish, and paint my dash just to be able to install the original gauges. It's no wonder it takes forever to do a restoration properly!

There is a ring with the mounting studs swaged into the metal opening of the dash. If you decide to chop your dash, try saving that part.

Here's what the backside of the dash where the instruments are located looks like. The center hole for the speedometer still has it's mounting ring and studs. The two instrument gauge holes were enlarged and the mounting rings and studs were long gone when I bought my truck.

Good progress. Made the "clamping" ring for the new SW surveyor speedometer. The new Wings SW gauges are a step closer. Cut out the back of the stock gauge, removed the stock gauges. Used the 1935 bezels & glass, I then reattached the modified stock back of the gauges. I hot glued them in place.
