LED tail lights

I have a pair of LED tail lights. On one set I have only one light in each section. I found and repaired a loose wire under the frame. The LED nest looks fine. Do LEDs burnout this way?

Are the LEDs mounted on a circuit board? If so, could the circuit board have a crack that prevents the LEDs from lighting?

Clem I found you have to have a very good ground for the leds to work right.
Have them on the coupe and they are Bright!

Can you pull the LED board and hook it directly to your battery? That will determine if its a connection / ground, or the LED board.

I just had to change out the LED front marker lights on my RV, which had developed the same symptom, that is, the 12 diode lights would have maybe half the diodes out. We just had the first down swing in temperature when I noticed it, down to about 40 degrees for a couple of days. When I went to replace the markers, at a higher ambient temperature, they all worked, but putting some bending pressure on the circuit boards would cause some of the diodes to die. These lights are perhaps 5-6 years old and are the ones on the front upper part of the coach body where they get a lot of weather exposure.

My suspicion for the failure is thermal stress causing the traces on the circuit boards to crack. No fix for this, I just replaced the markers (fairly inexpensive) with new ones from SuperBright LEDs -- https://www.superbrightleds.com/?gclid=CNvD2MO3k8kCFdgWgQodr3kMWg

BTW, good service and prices for the few things I've bought from Superbright.

I have the 6Volt LED stop/tail lights from Snyder's and they are excellent.

The manufacture of multiple LED's mounted on a PC board are usually connected simultaneously either by dip soldering or heating. Thermal cycling of the board could cause some of the connections to break. Using conventional sockets that accept standard lamp bases, i.e. 1156, 1157 is a more durable type lamp connection.

Technology for the LED's has changed a lot in the ten years since this thread was started.I have been buying the plug and play units that just plug into the bulb sockets.10 years ago those just didn't exist.(at least not good ones) I do have some of the board type in one car,but they were bought by the previous owner many years ago.

Where did you buy them? Do the suppliers carry them?

Keith, the corncob bulbs are not too long, and hit the lense?

Hello, I changed the bulbs in taillight to LED bulbs, much brighter now, replacing the 1157 bulb, my car is converted to 12 volt . Bought off EBay.

I just buy the ones that Snyders carries now.Stoplight, tail light, and cowl light. They look like a regular bulb base but missing the glass globe. They're not all that much money.I have them in two cars,in the third I still have the board type the previous owner put in.Do some homework before buying the ones off ebay. They list an 1157 style bulb, which was a double filament bulb. The 1157 is listed as a stop and tail, which it is,but it is not used on the A.The A uses two separate single filament bulbs for the stop and tail.

Hello , I checked the bases for bulbs in taillight and they have been changed, for 1157 dual filament bulbs, due to turn signals applied. I think 1156 type bulbs are single contact.Hope I didn’t mislead anyone.
