31 Sedan seat adjustment

I have a 31 town sedan. I need to find out if the front seat can be adjusted back - I am 6'4" tall and having trouble getting in/out and the pedals. Any modifications?
Thanks.

Is it a Slant Windshield Town Sedan? Does it has a visor at the top of the windshield?

That changes the answer.

Jim is correct. In my straight windshield Town Sedan, even with the seat adjusted all the way back, I still had leg problems. I ended up moving the whole seat back 3" and bending the shifter to the right 2". I'm 6'2".

Thanks.
It does not have the slant windshield with visor. I have adjusted it as far back as possible but could use some more room. Master Cylinder, how were you able to move the whole seat back 3 inches? Bending the gearshift is a whole other issue ........

Let's try this again:
Does your car have an external visor or not?

The slant windshield models have NO external visor above the windshield. That seat can be easily moved back 4 inches.

But if your car has an external visor, it is a straight windshield and is not so easy.

When I got my Town Sedan the screw and nut for adjusting the seat were removed and the seat moved all the way back and screwed down in that position. Fine for the driver but not for my disabled friends who rode in the back seat. I reinstalled the adjustment parts and move the seat forward for my disabled friends. Even with the seat back it is hard to get in and out. I have learned a way to rotate my feet and do a funny dance to get in and out.

I would like to install a little electric motor to turn the screw to adjust the seat. The knob is hard to get to and takes forever to adjust all the way from one end to the other.

Instead of an electric motor, perhaps one could replace the knob with a fitting from a scissor jack shaft and use a crank to adjust the seat?

I believe there were two types of seat adjusters - one that had a knurled cast round knob under the seat front that turns an acme- threaded shaft which in turn moves a nut attached to the seat frame (I have that type on my ‘30 TS) and another type that had a handle that rotates a notched plate, which engages a dog attached to the seat frame (I have that type on my ‘31 TS). On the latter you use your feet to push the seat rear wards, and a spring moves it forward. Very much like current manual seat adjusters.

For both types, it’s critical that the glides on the outside of the seat move easily and smoothly. 95+ years of old grease will make it seem like the seat is immovable. You might be able to free it up with Kroil or WD but the best long term solution is to remove the entire assembly, disassemble, thoroughly clean and lightly lube, then reassemble. Then you can assess whether you need to change the mounting position.
