the answers I was expecting.......

18k for paint
7k for chrome
10k for bodywork
6.5 for upholstery
13k for misc

LOL oh i forgot the tires!

Nah. A car like that, I'd service it and then drive the dang wheels off of it and have a blast.

I wiould paint it myself: $1000
New bummpers from Bratton's: $1000
Do my own bodywork $500
Install upholstery kit on new springs: $4500.
Misc. $4000
This is a hobby for me.

Now your in it 14 grand plus another couple grand for the misc stuff and don't forget a new set of tires. You're better off buying one done.
I think you are only 1/2 way there on the paint job when you add all the prep materials and quality paint.

I know the owner.........it is indeed avail.

good point Mr Franklin. I would just tidy up whats there with flea mkt finds and run the heck out of it. as far as new tires?

maybe...................

BB I live 30 minutes away. nobody would spend 2.5k for transport on a 3k car.

well, maybe somebody............

the math doesnt work out for many people. they lose track and spend spend spend. then complain when they can only sell for a little more then they paid.

As has been stated many times, these days if your desire is the end point (i.e., a finished car) then buying one like this and restoring it will be much more expensive than purchasing one that someone else has already worked over. But if your desire is the journey, being able to look back and say “I made that”, AND you have the time and money (and, if applicable, a sympathetic life partner) to do so, this looks like it might be a good foundation for that journey. A $3k initial price will get lost in the the total.

'sympathetic life partner' - CLASSIC!

I paid a little more than 3k for mine last year, did all the work myself and have about 18k in it. JFranklin, you're a little light on the upholstery but everything else is close.

Paying more for a better car is always cheaper in the long run.BUT,if I buy a $3000.car it's because I had $3000.to spend.I didn't buy a better one for $5000.because I didn't have $5000.The idea of saving for a while to buy something better won't work for me.My iron money is separate from my living money.I have quite a bit of iron, and it all eats a little with just light use.Tractor, dozer, backhoe, bobcat, dump truck, manlift, and a few other things. They all drink from the iron money pail, and now it all goes out faster. My manlift has two identical hoses, and one blew one year ago last June.$145. I replaced it's twin last Monday,$305.I'm rethinking the whole Model A thing,I just put $2000.into an A engine that would have cost me less than $1000.ten years ago.The babbit guy used me right, other things have skyrocketed.

Got it ready to roll early summer, then it turned too hot to enjoy it. Now that it's cooler, time to ride!
