Powder Coat vendors

Does anyone know of a vendor in the Philadelphia area that does grit blasting and powder coating? I am looking to get some wheels done.

Tire shops should be able to give you a lead. In the good old days there used to be a thing called the yellow pages to help find things.

I’ve been using Dr. Google and I have found a few. Rather pricy to either get a wheel grit blasted or grit blasted/powder coated. I the $175-$200 range per wheel so I was hoping someone could direct me to a place that might be cheaper?

When it comes to powder painting Model A spoke wheels, that price is not out of line. Cutting corners or looking for a cheap price for powder painting will produce a crappy finished job.

That's about right, to be honest. The cheapest place around here to do the blasting is about $80 a wheel (and that was a few years ago). $100 a wheel for blasting is correct. And then the powder coat, after correct prepping..$75-$100 isn't out of line either.

I would be okay with paying $200 a wheel to strip, prep, and powder coat.

Thanks folks for your help and input. I saw Les Schwab mentioned in a Paul Shinn video and I looked them up as well. Closest one was in Minnesota. I am going to move forward with the pricing I have. Thanks again for the help, informative as always.

I have always painted my wheels and they held up well and maybe cost $15-$20 each. I dip Model a wheels in a tub of water with 2 cans of lye for 2 days and they come out as bare metal needing very little prep work. The solution treats 3-4 wheels.

You should be able to do that and bring your own powder from https://www.modelawheelcolors.com/ A buddy and I did that. I had to buy more than I needed. This was 9-10 years ago, I wonder if it is still good?
I have had very limited success in the last couple of years raising anyone there by either their request page, email or phone. Ordering still seems to be an active site, however I hate to blindly order and have my order (and credit card number) go off into Never-Never land. If anyone has had positive experience with emailing, speaking or ordering recently, please comment. If I can get hold of the powder I plan to have my local Les Schwab powder coat my wheels, several members of my club have done so with favorable results.

The problem with powder coating wheels besides its relatively high cost is finding powder colors that match some of the original colors. It is much less difficult to match the original colors with paint.

Not Model A or spokes but I had 4 15" stock steel wheels for my '54 Ranch Wagon blasted and powder coated for for $380.00 total about a month ago. They matched ordered the powder by code to match the new paint on the wagon.

I have a guy in the lake Norman area that did my wheels (blasted and powder coated black) $50 a piece. That does not include any bondo or spoke straightening although he offers that as well. I’m not sure of color options or how accurate they are but he is very professional and if it can be done, he will.
