Y block crank pullies-how many can I use?

I have the standard pulley/damper with an extra pulley bolted to it for the PS belt. Can I add another pulley for an AC belt for a total of three belts?

Thanks Miker, but Mummert doesn’t seem to sell a crank pulley, just a PS pulley. At least that is what the link took me to. And I thought he did at one point but now can’t find it.

Guess I mis understood. Here’s pictures of the McCulloch blower belt drive. Pretty crude, but worked for years. I had the spacer made to index on the original pulley rivets. Not sure it was necessary, but it let it sit true. I was building my own mounting bracket. So I adjusted for the spacer for alignment. Not real help, but maybe an idea.

Re: Y block crank bullies-how many can I use?

How is the AC COMP driven now (damper pulley sheave numbers)?

The damper/pulley was single sheave (6312) and a outer pulley (6A312) was attached for PS.

There was a three sheathe pulley offered for factory AC.

Re: Y block crank bullies-how many can I use?

The three sheave pully for "factory air" seems to be made of "unabtaniom" as the primary question I was asked by the close to a dozen folks was the crank pulley several years ago when I had the system up for sale.....

GIGGLE the PN (B5AZ 6312-B) and be sitting when you hit ENTER ...

This is how I am set up now. Since I want to add Vintage Air do I need the third sheave or can I run a longer belt off of the main or PS pulley? I will be adding the compressor in the position like the pictures I posted up top. So I think I can adjust the compressor front to back a bit-think.

I’m running a Sanden compressor on brackets from Classic Air. With the GM alternator replacing the generator. The belt wraps around the crank, alternator, compressor, and water pump. I didn’t like the look of that, but I’ve not had a slippage problem so I guess it’s ok. I have had some problems with the alternator pivot bolt on top from stress/vibration fractures. That seems to be solved with a grade 8 bolt. It’s also a bit of a ***** to tighten the belt on a 90 amp alternator. EFI and electric fans are a pretty good load. But I can charge with everything on, including lights and wipers if needed.

If you’re in the other side (drivers) it’ll probably be fine. Might be a bit tight on the p/s pump, I’ve never looked at it from that side.

Advanced Automotive Components, Inc. sells an original design Y block iron dual groove pulley. Looks identical to the original.

Borgeson sells an aluminum version, but it won't fit some of the early Y block balancers

Thank you all for the info. At this time I will see if the V.A. compressor will work with the one belt (sounds like it will). If it needs a second belt I will worry about it then.

Thanks, K. I should have kept going under the one thread. Is there a way to merge them? Called V.A. and they said one belt. So now I need to figure out the bracketry to hold the compressor in that spot.

This post from other thread ...

You have no AC now (wanting to add) and these photos are from a sales page?

This setup appears to me as as 1958/ (COMP mtd on LS of engine), even though the photo shows a 1957 FYB engine install.

EDIT -

Or possibly a 1958 292 with a 1957 4V swap (ECZ-B INTAKE and 1957 F4100 CARB)

This is the COMP MTG INSTALL (VINTAGE AIR) for a BIRD FYB -

No FORD PASS CAR Offered - BIRD FEAD (ACCESSORY DRIVE) is a little different.

With a little finagling, you should be able to adapt the install to a FORD.

I think this mounting kit is slick, neater than my father's HO train set ... :D

The photos of the compressor mounted on the Y block look good, but I'm wondering if there is enough wrap on the generator pulley

GOOD POINT!

An AC COMP is going to require a high tension on the belt whereas a GEN requires much less tension as you can damage the bearings.

They also show the same setup using an ALT, but I think they are calling out a GM ONE-WIRE FARM TRACTOR ALT ...
