32 grill insert ss trim

How is the surround ss trim held in place on a 32 grill insert? Not the shell trim near hood.
The one that goes around insert with crank hole trim. Thanks!

I'm glad you asked this question. I'm thinking about removing the ss trim to refinish my grill. That looks to be a bit of a challenge.

There are a few different versions. Some have just a stainless face, others have a more extensive wrap of stainless.

As Alchemy says there are the 3 versions I am aware of. One version the SS snaps on a frame. The other 2 ,no.Here first is a pic of a version where the SS wraps around.Third pic is of the stepped surround stainless and second is the surround frame with the SS that is removable. Post a close up pic of what you have.

Assuming you have the version with the removable trim piece.

First, Remove the crank hole trim piece by prying the two tangs at the back so that it can move away from the insert.

Second, Pull the wedges out of the back of the grill bars then slide the crank hole trim piece away from the bars.

Third, Start at one end, use a flat blade screwdriver, pry the trim piece up and away from the insert frame. Go slow, move in small increments, work the edge up, move along a few inches, work the edge up, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat,

Primary objective DO NO DAMAGE. This trim piece is very easy to work, easy to remove dents and dings then polish.

When re-installing, start at the top center, no tools necessary, use your thumbs.

Tom,
The tricky part looks to be "Pull the wedges out of the back of the grill bar". In my grill, those wedges, with a bit of rust, seem to be very firmly in place. The force needed to remove them might bend the grill bars.

Hi John, You may have to squirt some oil in there, then open the path a bit and use a screw driver and a hammer to tap them out. Take your time, Good Luck
