Canister oil filter on a Model A

Greetings!
Has anyone ever set up or seen an old fashioned canister oil filter on a Model A? It feels slightly sacrilegious to put an ugly modern oil filter on a Model A, hence why am curious if anyone has mounted one of these filters, like that in the photo below, that is on a V8 in the photo.
Thanks! [/SIZE]

I don’t personally know anyone, but I’ve seen photos of folks doing it before spin-on filters were available.

Paint the spin on filter either Ford Engine Green or black and the under hood appearance is greatly improved

Hello, as mentioned the older oil filters were a by pass type filter rather than a full flow type .This type only filters oil that is bypassed by the oil pump pressure setting, they work but not as effective as the full pressure type that filters all the oil coming from the pump. But even a residual type would be better than nothing at all .

I think that if you are going to put an oil filter on your Model A engine then there is no point in trying to disguise it or to try and make it look old fashioned. An oil filter is an oil filter. It is like trying to disguise 16-inch wheels.

I'm gonna be a little pedantic here, just for clarity.

It is usually true that "a bypass filter removes smaller particles than a full flow type," but this is not due to the external form factor of the filter. Rather, the filter media in filters intended for bypass use is typically thicker/denser than the media in filters intended for full-flow use. Famously, you can (and many do) use toilet paper rolls in canister bypass filters. It's very effective.

The difference between a filter that functions as a bypass filter and one that functions as a full-flow filter is not the filter media, but rather where the inflow oil is coming from, i.e., how the tubing is set up. If the entire output of the oil pump is being sent through the filter, it's a full-flow filter. If only a small proportion of the output is being filtered, it's a bypass. You can have spin-on bypasses and canister full-flow filters (I've never seen a canister full-flow and it's probably not practical but in theory you could).

A Frantz toilet paper element filter would probably be better than a bypass filter. Use a Wix brand rather than a Fram type. Fram quality has gone downhill for years.

Any oil filter is better than none.
Some diesel engines use both, a by-pass and a full-flow, to get the both of the two types.

Isn't the Franz filter a bypass filter?

Sorry, Let me clarify my response. YES the Frantz is a bypass, I meant that
the toilet paper element was better than a regular bypass filter like Fram.

Sorry, it's not a wives tale about Fram being of low quality. Many tests from independent labs have proven it.

If you're going for nostalgia there's always a Frantz. You'll be all set until the next TP shortage......
I wish someone made an adapter that took a smaller import filter instead of the big Ford one.

Wow - I think my Town Sedan used to have one; here's a photo of how it looked when the previous owner acquired it - unfortunately, when I bought it, the filter was nowhere to be seen; I guess he decided to get rid of it for some reason (but I added a Bypass filter from Snyders along with a 90-degree adapter a few years ago).

Another thing about the Frantz unit. You can plumb it anywhere if you don't want it
to show in the engine compartment.

I have a vintage filter, came off a "Case" tractor, name on unit is "Reclaimo", don't know anything about it, nothing in it........

Does anyone filter their motor oil remotely while the car is resting in the garage? I have thought about setting up a remote oil filter & pump that would flow oil from the pan, filter it remotely and pump it back into the oil pan. I would do this when indicated necessary by an oil test.
