horn

Hey Guys I have another question. My battery would drain after a day or so. The horn relay seemed warm so I replaced it. I was in the car and pushed on the horn and sparks shot out from behind the horn ring. I disconnected the battery but can't get the center cap off the horn. How do you get it off, I tried pushing it in and turning but didn't work. any help would be appreciated.

Should be no power at the horn button to cause sparks because the horn button just grounds the horn or relay. Maybe the wires on the horn relay are mixed up. Follow your wiring diagram to understand how the circuit works. I would not pull the horn ring apart just yet because i dont think the problem is in there. Regards, Kevin.

Yes on the battery drain. Using the below as a guide, ignoring the 12 volt label on terminal #86, locate the terminal #85. Pull this wire off of the relay. You should now have no voltage at terminals #86 and #87. If this is the case, somewhere along the wire from #85 to your horn ring, the wire is shorting to ground.

I did switch wires but then the horn did nothing. I have the half horn ring and would like to pull the ring off to get inside to see if there is a broken or bare wire. What holds the ring on. I cant get the center cap to budge?

I did switch wires but then the horn did nothing.?

You could get good help if you post a picture of your relay. Just switching wires around won't get you there, at least in a good way.

Concentrate on the relay first before you start pulling the horn ring, etc. apart.

I don't know if this will help, but on my '51, there are two screws that come through the back of the steering wheel spokes and hold the horn ring on.
