Never been a fan of the guy who runs that webpage.

hmmm.... is it the same fellow who has the youtube site by the same name?

https://www.youtube.com/@THEFLATSPOT

and is there incorrect information being given?

i can't justify becoming a "member" but the free information i could access beats anything the local library or pin-point searches on the internet can yield.

not interested in a personality quibble, we all come here to avoid that i hope, but just trying to suss out your comment.

or was it a skinned knuckles day, and you're annoyed with the world?

i have those, for sure.

thanks

There’s a lot of good flathead content on our website and you don’t have to be a member to use ours. That fellow lifted many of our diagrams and specs from our website without our permission, so he’s not going to get any recommendations from me.

ooohh. that's not in the spirit of fair play.

i go there sometimes (VP) but not having a mechanical background will leave me with more questions and a little frustrated. on a positive note, youtube videos from a bunch of culled sources are incrementally increasing my understanding, so i will try more.

obviously i have no interest in supporting someone with exclusively proprietary interests in any of my hobbies, be it modeling cars, trains, bicycling, or simply "building things".

asking as i have here helps me with decisions who to support (not in a financial way - i'm a pensioner!) but in general.

thanks for the diplomatic feedback; it makes the advice so much more valuable.

(that's awkward, but you guys get the gist)

Mac has it. I didn't want to get into the weeds but he stole a lot of other peoples information. He's a dishonest person.

with great trepidation after reading the enlightening comments And pages from both links (Glenn), i dare ask if i can print off some of your pages for individual modeling references?

i am specifically (this week; changes like the wind!) interested in prototype upgrades which would have been done in or around 1949 (cut off date in my model railroad world) to an early '30s vehicle. things like hydraulic brakes to a '34 or engine changes/ enhancements to same and how to model them in a manner which would pass the operating test if it were a 1:1 vehicle.

thanks either way,

sid

ps: the youtube guy's voice & demeanor sort of caught my attention, but i was trying to be open minded about the whole thing as long as the information was factual.

i have x-nayed my ub-scription-sayed.

Sid, the files are free for printing. The only source was from internet archives and not taken off someone else's site to the best of my knowledge. I compiled it and filled in many blanks.

Please attach pictures of part of your train setup please. I had a bunch of HO parts and layout but no more. I don't understand how brake upgrades would even be visible in a small gauge railway.

Glenn

thanks.

i model freelance 1/2" (1:24-5) scale narrow gauge "feldbahn" railway themes. the estate railways & WW I trench equipment is under this umbrella (Hudson, Decauville, archeology, peat works, industrial & mining) - i could go on and on ad nauseum . . .

this type of railway:

rather than a model railroader, i am a railroad modeler. the former intends to replicate an operational railroad, and the latter builds models with a railroad theme.

but if you have ever assembled a (now defunct manufacturer) Jordan Highway Miniature, you could certainly understand the minutea to which some strive.

I’ve had negative comments from him on a Facebook post that weren’t even relative to my post. When I called him on it via text he didn’t apologize, just recanted his comments by deleting them.

thanks.

Intriguing hobby.

I had planned to model the https://srrlrr.weebly.com/ or a logging operation in New Hampshire's White Mountains, https://roaringbrookmaps.wordpress.com/2017/01/31/logging-railroads-in-the-white-mountains/. For the logging I would use Shay locomotives. I took this picture in Taiwan where I lived worked for a few years.
