I have been posting a few old pictures that I take of pictures I see on FB. It is similar to Google in that you can search for pictures of your liking. I like old cars of all sorts, old gas stations, early racing, etc. I like to study the pictures for historical times. I find it so very interesting. I expect that if I become immobile some day I will spend much of my time reminiscing and looking at old photos.

Here is an Old Ford photo for you to enjoy.

A still from the film The Best Years of Our Lives (1946).

I raced my Fordy Ford racecar a couple times, about 20 some years ago
at a 1/2 mile dirt track that is very close to you, in Webster City, Iowa.
My Fordy had a 276 inch flathead with a five speed trans.

Great pictures Lanny. The car looks familiar as I am assuming it was a "nostalgia" race? What rear gear did you have with that 5 speed? Do you still have the car? We had a track in the middle of Fort Dodge until the 60's. Sports Park I believe. Located where Fort Dodge Ford is today. I would listen to the action late 40's early 50's but my Dad had no interest and no money so the "music" had to do until I was old enough to watch. My pal Gerald and I spent many weekend nights at Webster city and Algona, Iowa. Bud Fair, Harold Anderson (still living in Duncombe) Harold Kalahar, Puddy Weimers, Gene Schatsneider Curt Hansen, Red Drawley Bob Hill, are a few names you might remember. Fun times for sure! Thanks for reminding me.

34 fordy, yes it was nostalgia races and the IMCA sanctioned the two races
that I and tubman attended there in Webster City, Iowa.
There was about one hundred rare old race cars, of all types there, and
it was some great events.
I remember, one of the racers, driving an old Ford sedan, went over the
turn one/two guard rails and rolled his car pretty hard.
I ran over there as the ambulance paramedics had him out of the car
and sitting on a chair to examine him, as he looked a bit dazed.
One of the guys asked him, What Day is it? He yelled back. It's Race Day...
We all chuckled,,,as he was just fine. ;)

Is the name "Jack McCorkell" familiar to you?

Sure do. Saw him at Jackson Mn. and Knoxville numerous times. I had a buddy that had a trailer in Okoboji Iowa where he visited in the summer. He always went to Jackson on Saturday night for the sprint cars. He always sat with a fellow from Laurens, Ia. that sponsored Roger Larson. Naturally Roger was his favorite but he also followed Darrell Dawley. I remember how saddened he was when the two great drivers from his favorite track were killed when they got tangled up at Knoxville, Ia. around 1979. He did not believe me when I called to tell him about that horrible night. Sad times!

Then it might interest you to know that I currently own the old "Thurmers Brothers" mod out of Jackson that McCorkell drove and dominated the modifieds in Iowa and Minnesota in the middle sixties. He won the state "Stock Car" championship twice with his car and placed third once in addition to winning a lot of track championships. It has an early hemi in it now, but it was Oldsmobile powered back then, and I have a "Hot Rocket" I intended to put back in. Alas, Father Time got in the way.

(I tried to upload a couple of pictures, but got an error message - I'll try later.)
