53 Mercury inner fender part missing

[dean333]

What is missing in this 3”x4” area of my left inner fender?

[Kens 36]

Tim,

Someone may have a better answer, but that one has me stumped. I'm not sure that anything belongs there. I have seen many 1953 Mercurys with nothing there. Perhaps a prior owner added something that was later removed?

Possibly for the bracket that holds the windshield washer glass jar.
Not sure if that was an option in '53, but the '55 Mercury I used to have, had the washer bottle in that area.

The w/s washer bottle is on the passenger side.

I have a 53 and a 52 and I don't think there was anything in that location on mine. I'll check if I can remember when I'm by the cars.

My '53 washer bottle is on the driver's side

Perhaps someone moved the VIN # tag?

I’m also thinking it’s the windshield washer bottle bracket mounting location

Nope. The washer battle is on the other side (passenger) and is attached to the firewall, not the inner fender.

Perhaps someone moved the VIN # tag?

Not likely. The VIN tag is attached to the door jamb and has only two holes on the middle of the side, not four on the corners.
