Brake Rod Issue

I ordered the 6 pc brake rod set from Snyders for my 31 pickup. On each of the 4 long rods for the service brakes, the knob that engages the anti-rattle springs is about 17-1/2” from the clevis eye. The rear rods went in without a problem. On the front, however, the bracket that holds the anti-rattle springs lines up roughly where the back of the engine cover meets the cowl and the knob on the rods is much closer to the front axle. To engage the anti-rattle spring, the knob on the rod would need to be approximately 35” from the clevis eye. Did they give me 4 rear rods? Is something else going on here? TIA

There is only one rod size for the service brakes. For the rear brake rods the threaded clevis is at the center bar. On the fronts the threaded clevis is at the wheel.

Tom, I bought a set of the brake rods and the anti rattle springs from Snyders as well. The length fit perfectly but I had the issue that the end of the rods that need to go through the slot in the spring not fitting. The end of rod needed a little grinding to fit through the slot and the threads were a little tight on the eyes so after chasing the threads everything fit as it should. Good luck with your brake rods.

Yep, I also had to do a little grinding to fit the ends thru the springs. I forgot to order the threaded eyes with the rods, so I’m waiting for them to come in.

I'm helping my brother in law with his car and we got the same problem that they won't
go through the springs. He bought them from the same place. I think they need to look into this problem instead of having everyone fix their problem.

The replacement rods are a larger diameter than the originals, and the eyes are correspondingly thicker. I don’t have them in front of me but say the originals were 5/16” (0.313”) then the replacements might be 10 mm (0.394”). I likely have the exact numbers wrong but the difference between the original and replacements is noticeable. I needed two to replace some worn ones and wish I had ordered four so they match. Shipping is considerable because of the length, so I’ll make do.

Redirecting this thread some but has anybody other than myself found that the later, wire type anti rattle springs are of poor quality, Mine have all broken.
