Nasty oil pump screen

Oil pump screen is loaded with blue rtv.
Engine even has a oil filter on the side cover.
Rtv was on every fastener I removed, what a mess.

Wick, I hate that stuff. I can't count how many motorcycle engines I have seen in the past ruined because of this stuff getting stuck in the restriction orifices, stopping oil flow to the overhead cams. Don't use it, not even a little is good.

Modern engines use silicone sealant but in a controlled manner. It is applied in a specific pattern and in a controlled amount using a robot. The modern engines were designed for this type of sealant but the Model A engine was not. I have reverted to the non hardening type of Permatex along with gaskets.

I cringe when I see a bead of sealer on a gasket surface that is not smoothed to a thin film. The squeeze-out from a bead of sealant is indicative of very poor workmanship.
