1930 mode A

I find that people are reluctant to pull the engine for various reasons. The engine in a Model A is really simple to pull and to work on. Try pulling the engine out of a 2016 Diesel truck. You have to remove the body first and that is just the start. Instead of a few hours it will take a week or more.

Well, we could look at it another way, it takes ~10 minutes to remove the engine from a VW Bug, 15 if you are slow...

We had a competition in my high school shop class on removing a VW bug engine. Keep in mind this was before readily available air tools (1960's), so we had to use ratchet wrenches and screwdrivers. My best friend and I took first place, I don't remember the time but it was on the order of 10-15 minutes.

The trick to removing the VW bug engine was to have an old tire on the ground under the engine that it would drop onto.

My old drag strip used to have a bug in every year and they would do a contest pulling a Volkswagen engine out reinstalling it and starting it and the winning team did it in just under 2 minutes!!! This was 2 man team using only open end wrenches and a floor jack!!! 1982.

They must not have connected the heat ducts. Those took a bit of futzing around if I recall.

Now I'd really like to see someone pull the cam out of a VW engine while it's in the car.....
You can't do it on a Shay either - the rear cam journal on a Pinto 2.0/2.3 is larger than the rest so the cam needs to go out the back of the cylinder head.
