i'm kinda stalled waiting on parts for projects and decided to refurbish some starters i had laying around. ( i can't just sit around on these cold winter days)got them dissassembled, checked out and ordered
parts from a supplier. after i had ordered i removed the field coils from one starter to clean old oil and grit from the housing. in the process the thin plastic? insulator strip broke into pieces. i don't want to make another order for just these insulator strips. any suggestions for a material to make these strips? milk jug plastic is about the same thickness, but can't git a long enough piece from the side of the milk jug. maybe even gasket material? ideal please!

I'd use gasket material. I've never taken the field coils, just clean the best you can with solvent, let dry and re-assemble.

this starter looked like it had been on an oil slinger that traveled on a dirt road, lots of oil and grit so i removed the coils to clean them and the housing. otherwise i wouldn't have removed the field coils the thin gasket material is what i had in mind. p.s. ive been studying your 4 banger book as i am buildint an engine for a speedster i have built, lots of good info.

Yes that electrically insulating paper sometimes is also called fish paper I use it when I refurbish electric train transformers I purchase sheets of it on ebay it's very inexpensive.
