37/41 distributor on a 36?

Hi everyone, I have the stock 1936 distributor on my engine and a spare rebuilt 37 to 41 distributor in my parts stash. They look the same (save for the bakelite cover color).

will the later type distributor fit and work on my stock 1936 engine? anyone‘s input on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

the later distributor will bolt onto the timing cover, but the side terminal plates, whilst looking similar are different from 1937. So, you'd need to change them too...

If I'm not mistaken, isn't the rotor on the '36 distributor slightly different also?

If your current distributor is the late flat top coil 36 distributor it will work presuming you have the correct coil for the 37-41. If your stock 36 distributor is the normal 33-36 distributor (3 screws holds the coil on) then you would need to change the inner caps to the 68-12116 versions. The only way to avoid that would be to put the early rotor in the later distributor

Thanks Michael - I've not really worked on the various early distributors - much appreciate the detailed information!
