Cast Iron Sediment Bowl threads

I have a CISB that somebody sand blasted it and screwed up the threads that the bottom drain device screws into. They are very fine and fragile. Otherwise it is mint.

What are the threads and pitch? Is there a tap you can buy to fix them?

Thanks much.

Are the threads still there? The problem I've run into is that there isn't enough material to re-tap. I'd love to figure it out as I have quite a few in my "hall of shame" with buggered threads...and not enough material left to recut them.

Thanks Bob and Synchro...

rackops no there isn't enough meat left there to thread them you are right on that. I'll keep it in my tool box maybe someday somebody will come up with a 'fix'

Thanks to all

Again, a lot of work but an alternate fix may be to machine a new plug with a slightly oversize thread. Often times in a situation like this, non -load bearing, a few thousands oversize will hold.

I have one of those with a stripped thread at the bottom. The previous owner soldered it together. It works, it doesn't leak so I leave it alone.

The only problem with that is you can never clean or replace the filter.
You can still find replacements out there since many prefer the glass sediment bowl.
I prefer the cast sediment bowl.

Probably the only real option would be to braze material where the threads are bad. Build it up with brazing rod and then you could retap it. I would not trust solder as this is a fuel connection.

There's a filter in there???? I've never seen one and I've never even heard anybody talk of it other than here. On another car it was a solid mass of very fine rust probably accumulated over decades.
Does anybody have a diagram of how it works. I have a spare one somewhere so I might try getting it working properly (if parts are available).

Every time I have taken mine apart over the years since I put a pencil filter in my tank there is nothing in it.

Hi Synchro:

The filter and the repair kit is not available at present. if you want to see what it looks like you can see one in a past thread (I still don't know how to post a photo) you can send me your email and I will send you a photo. My emai: 1931milly@gmail.com.

Here's the Ford drawing of the sediment bulb. They don't typically go bad if the car is driven, but the ability to clean out any sediment is available via the knob on the base.
