Rear Shock "HELP" for a 34 Banjo Rear end

I want to install shocks on my banjo rear end. I was thinking about using tube shocks but the bracket did not work because the flange is angled and the spring curves in not leaving enough room. I then though what about original shocks but I think my dad removed the ball thing off the axle.

Does some one have a picture of original shocks attaching to a 1934 banjo rear end? I would like to see how they attach before dropping big money on the old style shocks.

Would also be interested in other ideas.

I installed a set of tube shocks from Posies. The brackets included are welded to the rear cross member, and allows the shocks to clear the springs. I am very satisfied with the ride on my '34 original style PU. The enclosed picture shows the brackets. Byron.

What's the source of the lower brackets seen in the pictures? Are they the late "banjo era" mounts from the factory? Thanks!
 
I used the reinforcement bracket out of a 37-40 frame on either side, drilled the bottom frame rail and used 37-48 rear shocks, also had to shorten the arm. They work great and are nearly original. The lever shocks are stronger than tube shocks in my opinion.
 
I would get a good set of the original shocks. If you use tube type make sure they are fairly straight up and down like Mr 42s except figure the stroke they will move. Measure the frame to axle with a heavy load and deduct an inch then jack the frame up until the wheel just comes off the floor and measure the frame to axle length. The difference of the lengths is the stroke. Shocks to short will tear the mounts, to long may make a difficult installation like cutting the floor as Mr 42 did if the shocks were to long. I have seen tube shocks mounted on a big angle that pushed the body side to side over one inch. G.M.
