1956 Fairlane missing the horn wire

Hi Guys! My next electric problem is my car has no thru - the -column horn wire. Question 1: Does the new wire slide down easily? 2: where does it come out down below? Thanks in advance! F F

Does it go down easy - the answer is yes and no. Not trying to be funny here, it can be a bear or it can be a piece of cake.. The wire goes in from the top and exits thru the steering box if it is the same as my 54 Ford. Best bet, that I have found, is to to get a length of solid wire and run it through the column till it comes out the other end. Then attach either the horn wire or a piece of string to the solid wire and pull through. If you use the string, then attach the string to the horn wire and pull through

Note: Fold the end of the solid wire over so there is no sharp point that can hang up on something

Thanks Paul! The repop wire I see in various catalogs look like it has a stiff casing around it. I would think that it would stiffen it up some making it easier to get down to the box. However, I like the idea using the string, too. Whereabouts does it exit the steering box?

I'm guessing these '55 / '57 (T-bird) steering boxes have the same horn wire setup???
If the one you have has been without a wire in it for long enough there may be some crud in the opening making it hard to see at first glance.

Inserting a small stiff wire up from the bottom to attach and use pulling the new horn wire down into place works well. I usually cover that temporary connection with a thin layer of tape to help it slide past any obstructions inside the steering shaft.
The stiff casing on the new one may not help. After being coiled up in the package for however long it won't want to go straight thru the steering shaft, and be a slight pita.

It’s easy peasy.

My ground Horn Wire attaches to my Horn Relay.

You may encounter grease, dirt and the slight bump near the bottom of the shaft? Keep poking you’ll get past the “plug”.
