Back in the day uniforms were very important. The suit and tie is still a uniform of sorts. I think society would be much improved if we still adhered to some of the old ideals. I am self employed, have been for 35 years. About 20 years ago I learned the importance of "dressing for the job you want, not necessarily the job you have". Looking back at pics of my ancestors, farmers, they are always in a uniform of sorts. Chambery shirt, straw hat, cotton heavy duty pants or overalls, proper shoes. When they went to town they ALWAYS cleaned up with a dress hat, nice shirt and pants, even nice shoes, possibly even a tie and coat jacket. When my grandma went to town on "trade day" (tuesday) she always wore her sunday best. ALWAYS. Even into her 80's. It was not in order to gain respect for themselves, it was due to respect for society. They respected OTHERS and so they wanted to appear respectable. I love seeing some of these old photographs. People always took the time to clean up and stage their photographs, it was important to them and photographs were expensive. A nice photograph could cost as much as a days wages for a hired man.Sometimes I think the men back in those early days wore their shirt and tie to bed. Lol
Neat picture Dave.............
