Door jamb tally marks?

While prepping inside of 34 pickup cab for painting, I found some hand made markings on the passenger side door jamb with 9 tally marks, 3 sets of initials (P.P. And TP) and 2 dates (July 26, 1935 and July 17, 1935).

Any idea why someone would make these marks?
