6v positive ground solid state voltage regulator for generator

My '36 Jensen-Ford's 6v positive ground voltage regulator for generator is being difficult. I believe that someone is manufacturing solid state voltage regulators that fit within the housing for the original regulator. I would like to stop having to adjust the 3rd brush for all types of different driving. What is currently available?

Thank you

We’re made by Fun products but I don’t think they are available anymore unfortunately.
Looked like stock.

There is another alternative. Mike Hill makes a really nice Electronic Voltage Regulator (EVR) for model A generators. I found that it also works in the 1932 - 1936 generators. Its a little more work to install, but is well worth the effort. It is internal to the generator and replaces the 3rd brush assembly. I put one in my 1935 fordor's generator about 7 months ago. It has been working perfectly. I also put one in my model A's generator. Here a a couple photos of the 1935's installation.

John Regan's Fun Projects stuff is no longer available. The loss of the cut out regulator caused enough excitement in the Model T hobby that a group of folks designed a replacement and the new design is now available here:https://modeltstarters.com/voltage-regulators-cutouts/

Personally I prefer the type of regulator that replaces the third brush. James Peterson in the north-west made good third brush replacement regulators that attached inside the brush cover band and I have good experience with his product, but they are no longer available. I was not previously aware of the Mike Hill option, for V8 use I would choose that over the cut out design.

That looks like a GREAT way to go! If it was mine, I'd buy TWO of them to have a spare. LOL

All of the solid state regulators include a diode bridge to act as a one way flow from the generator. They don't use the heavy power diode that is on the cut out replacements that have no regulator.

Only the Fun Projects EVR includes a "cutout". However, you need to set the brush setting at 5A to make sure it is not over powered. Also make sure you don't motor the generator through the EVR.

The internal EVRs do not include a cut out. You use either the electromechanical cutout or the diode cutout with them.

I have installed two of Mike Hills regulators in my cars. One with the diode cutout, and one with original style. They really are nice.

I purchased 2 EVR’s from Mike Hill and both work as advertised, one for my generator with a diode and one for my other generator with an electo-magnetic cutout. They not only work great but keep the engine bay looking stock.

I had a generator rebuilt about 6 or 7 years ago for a '31 Model A by the late great Tom Wesenberg and it worked great eliminating the third brush.Does anyone know if the Mike Hill conversion is the same design? I just thought Tom's was a cutout to diode change

Mike's EVR is similar to Tom's, but with newer components. It too replaces the 3rd brush assembly and can use either an original Ford cutout or a diode cutout. I've installed at least a dozen of them, including in my own model A and '35 V8 Fordor. They work great.
