1950 convertible spot lights

Do the convertibles need a specific mount for spot lights? Mine has holes left over from a spot light and I got a 49-50 spot light and it doesn’t line up quite right (I’m not sure if mine had an aftermarket or ford spotlight before it went missing)
I’ve seen some different listings for mounts saying convertible and not “all”
Also is there a bezel for the inside as well with the ford lights?

In the 40s and 50s there were a lot of spotlight manufacturers. Unity, Appleton Lorrain, etc. Most all fit differently. If it were me, I would plug the holes and not have a spotlight. Looks like you are in the restoration mode and now would be the time to do it. JMHO as I am not a spotlight person.

Later Fords used the Unity types as accessories. Appleton brand were the most popular aftermarket types due to the bullet shape they commonly used. They are expensive now if you can find them in good shape. The 1949/51 Lincoln and Mercury type accessory spots were made by Unity and had a bezel form that matched the optional reverse light and driving lamp bezels with radial grooves around the periphery. They were chrome plated die castings that love to rust out.

I got ahold of a pair of unitys last year and was told they came off an early 50’s ford but the mounts are way off, just got ahold of what I thought was the ford licensed/dealer sold spotlight with the grille nose design, I’m not sure what the car had on it before

TJ, I'm with you. Sometimes less is more.

All unity lights have a simple code stamped on. This is the only way to tell if they were accessory sanctioned units or not. Ford printed accessory manuals for the cars made in the 50s but they aren't as easy to find as they used to be.

I always thought that I wanted Spotlights. Then I drove a car with dual spotlights. My knuckles were happy when i decided to leave them off.

Going by the parts manual, original Ford 49-51 used the same mounting bracket for all but the Station Wagon. If mounting Unity spotlights Convertibles and Victories used specific brackets.

Installed spotlites on police cars in the local factory. You don’t want to know how we did it.
They looked and worked fine.

good day , we have both Spotlights and Brackets for your ford both New Old Stock and Used . I also have 1 Back Up light shaped like the Spotlights. James

The photo you included is the original Ford spotlight and they do match the backup lamp and the grille bullet.
