Help identify Hydraulic Brake Upgrade

The 1940 hub seal will work if you have a 1935 or newer spindle. 1934 spindles do not have a correct shoulder to fit in the seal.

The earlier spindles need the stamped metal "deflector cup" removed and a machined bearing spacer added to accommodate the longer length of the early spindle. The inner seal of the later hub will then seal against that spacer.

Spindles are earlier type. Info above is good. One thing I discovered when I did this job is that the 32-34 spindles need shortening to suit the 40 type hubs. You can see whyere the end of the spindle has been wearing through the dust cap.

I did this conversion on my 32 sedan and shortened the spindles. I cut them back to the cotter pin hole and drilled a new hole further back. I showed it in one of my 32 build videos. I've never heard the over long spindle mentioned before.

Like @Andy said there will be a spacer behind the inner bearing.

The spacer is needed to locate the drum properly and is usually sized for a stock '39 up inner seal.

The original metal grease ring is chiseled off so it doesn't interfere with the seal in the hub.

Some of the info in the notes on the picture don't apply to this thread and were on the pictures for juice brake installation info I sent to another fellow.

Ok I have that inner spacer. So I’m good there

Then I have the inner bearing then the outer then I have the washer and bolt with cotter pin

I did notice the wear on the grease cap so I probably should replace those and shave off the spindle a bit. Can you easily buy a replacement grease cap?

I did take some more pictures of the spindle

In your picture it looks like the 1934 metal grease retainer is still on the spindle. Check the diameter to verify that the 1940 rubber lipped seal can fit.
