Replace broken Windwing

I had a problem with my '29 CCPU windwing. I pried the old whole one out of the brackets. It was 1/4 in thick laminated glass. I took it to a glass store to get a replacement cut. They asked if it was for a vehicle. I responded yes and they said that they were unable to make anything for a vehicle. Previously, they had made tinted windows and other glass for my Model A's. The owner had no reasons why but that they were not allowed.

Is there some new rule, federal or Tennessee?

Does anyone know of a place where I can get a replacement?

Thanks,
Vic

I would find a glass shop that can get the glass tempered. I believe Bert's sells tempered glass windwings. You night give them a try. BTW, I have never seen windwings on a CCPU. Why do you need them?

I got replacement wind wings from Snyders. I’m not sure whether I was installing them wrong or if the brackets that came with the car are worn out, but the glass seems to hold just fine for a while, then slips out of the brackets’ grip and attempt suicide via gravity. I tried making the brackets tighter, only to have the glass crack. One of the commenters here said he has plastic cut out to match the original pattern, then drills holes through them and bolts them in place. I haven’t tried it yet but it sounds practical, albeit not authentic.

Hello, I know local hardware stores won’t make plate glass for doors , only plexiglass, perhaps that’s the reason why they won’t make them for cars , wing windows on 30-31 roadsters were safety glass when new . Look up wing windows on Ford Barn, there are some older posts regarding them.

Sounds like a local decision by someone that doesn't want liability - or thinks it must have the bug etched on it. Look online for a supplier if they don't already have the pattern you can send them one.

my pass windwing fell out and shattered, while towing home. went on ebay and found a single.............

I checked the various websites for polycarbonate and found some 1/4 in thick pieces. I will order it soon. One place had 18 in length nominal. My glass is exactly 18 inch long. I want to find 24 in nominal to be sure it fits.

Thanks,
Vic
