Oil Level On Dipstick....

Get a calibrated scale and see which one is correct. Or get an old one and calibrate it if it is not correct. 6 5/8 inches from the stop of the inserted limit at block hole. Easy, pleasy.

A big but I think, interesting side track here. When the Germans took France during the war, they forced manufacturers to start producing equipment for their forces against their will. One such fellow, Andre Citroen, decided he wasn't going to play along with that and sabotaged his vehicles in a very cunning way. He knew that they had to fail soon after the Germans took them but not so soon that he would be implicated. His tactic was brilliant in its simplicity. He simply made new dip sticks with the "Full" line very low. Pretty soon, the oil level would be low enough to ruin the engine. The Germans never caught on to what he had done!

Normal oil filters for modern cars have a valve that prevents oil from leaving the filter when the engine is not being run. It takes a about 12 psi to overcome this valve. I suspect that the oil filters for the low pressure stock Model A oil pumps do not have this valve and the oil will leak out when the filter is horizontal. Filters for hydraulic system do not have the anti-leak valve.

They are simple rubber flutter valves. When the engine is off for a long time, the oil gradually seeps out of the edges.

Oh boy, here we go again. Next it will be suggested to drill holes in the rubber check valve like in one of Paul Shinn's videos.
There is not a "special" oil filter for "low pressure stock Model A oil pumps".

I have run an oil filter for many years without modifying it. I use the side valve chamber side cover adaption that I'm sure everybody has seen.
I've seen this discussion before but I figure if mine is working, why would others not work? I think some of us tend to overthink things.

Just as long as it isn't 'your' Model A that he is doing this on. and show up in one of his videos :)

P.S. - Just teasing BTW

At one time I had a 1/2dozen dip sticks. No two had the line in the same place. So, I Summed the measurements and divided by pie/3r squared-2Db and shifted into second...

Four quarts takes it right to the line on the dipstick in all my A’s. No leaks.

Four quarts takes it to the “F” for me. But it tends to leak a lot if I do. I typically put 3-1/2 in, which puts it midway between “E” and “F”, then add 1/2 quart at a time to keep it there. Minimal leakage if I do it that way.

The way we do it at "Al's Garage"
