PAYPAL commission

that would be up to the owner of the business. remember- friends and family gives you NO INSURANCE<

you best know whom youre dealing with. is it worth losing 1000. over 30. of insurance?

a lot of muddling on this thread between US delivery and overseas- let me say it again
once it leaves US soil- all bets are off....

as some would say- NO JOKE!

There is no certainty about it even when goods are on US soil. One of the biggest costs we face shipping goods from the US by surface is random inspections by US customs where everything is taken out of a container to be inspected and the agent has to pay to have it put back. Why US customs wants to inspect containers leaving the US has me stumped. I have had items go missing during that process. NOT happy.

I think the problem is we are dealing with companies with a GDP bigger than most countries.
I bought a DELL computer when on sale for 40% off. Dell took the full amount from my credit card. Apparently, that is OK.
Dell were useless to deal with. Paypal kept closing my complaint. I got onto the credit card people and they forced Paypal to deal with it. Well, one way or the other I got my money back, tho not sure how.
You cannot fight any of these businesses on your own.

Have the customer pay you via PayPal "friends and family". No fees for either of you.

When you do business with someone,
either you trust them or you don’t.

If you don’t trust them then
don’t do business with them.

I sold one of my enclosed
car hauler trailers that was
in Ohio while I was in Florida
earlier this year.

The Buyer paid for it using
“ friends and family “.

No fee for either of us.

I bought car parts from someone that I had transacted with at least 8x.
guy died and kids wouldnt refund my 1200. PPL took care of that.

very happy to pay the 3%

so much for trust lol

Paypal is providing a service that protects both buyer and seller on domestic transactions. Quit being cheap and pay for the service!

FYI for people paying via PayPal- I last used PayPal years ago, and moved since then. I used PayPal a few weeks ago, and updated my credit card and billing address. The PayPal site didn’t prompt me to update the shipping address. The car part has been bouncing back and forth between the originating post office and my old address - four times so far! Moral: If you move, update your shipping address.

If you buy something and use friends and family to pay for it the buyer pays the fee.

If you pay by cash or by
authorization from your
bank account registered
to PayPal there is no fee
to send money to
“ friends & family “.

The only “ fee “ charged to the
person sending the money is
if they use a credit card that
charges interest.

A guy over on the HAMB wanted
to buy a rollbar from someone
who would only take cash a couple
weeks ago - he asked me to pay
the Seller on his behalf - so he sent
me a PayPal payment - the deal fell
thru - I sent him his money back
thru PayPal.

Both payments were
“ friends and family “.
Neither one of use paid a fee.

All business I conduct is
only with folks I trust.

All solved, Dick sent me the link, Then paypal finally answered my question , The guy pays with friends & family , no charges , Once again Ford Barn to the rescue, Thanks
50* F here , chilly overcast day , Wishing I was in Colorado, ??
He and not the seller pays the fee and has NO buyer protection. PayPal charging 3% is the same rate that credit card companies charge. If it's a business I'd expect their business model to include those charges. I'm reluctant to send friends and family to someone I haven't dealt with before or presents themselves as a business and wants you to use it.

PayPal has no "free" services. trulyvintage wasn't charged because he returned (refused) money he had been sent. The original sender paid 3% to send it and nothing to get it back.

When my son was in High School we paid his tutor with Paypal Friends and Family. Neither of us paid any fees. I would consider that a "free service".

I send/receive $ frequently using PP friends/family. It's free for both sender and receiver. But no protection for sender so not to be used for for folks you don't know/trust.

The money sent to me was claimed
and collected and then refunded in
two separate PayPal transactions.

You do not know what you are
talking about when it comes to
my business ….

Is it possible to change paying a person as a business to paying them as Family or friend?
I'm well over paying fees.

Many posts since I asked this so I assume I can't change from "Business or services" to "Family or Friends".
Looks like I close my account and maybe open a new one.

How to use PayPal Friends and Family?

  1. Log into the PayPal account.
  2. Select “Send & Request”
  3. Input the recipient's details using either the name, email address or phone number in the “Send money” section.
  4. Choose “Sending to a friend” when prompted.
  5. Enter the payment amount and add a note, if desired.
  6. Click Submit.

Yes you need to either close or keep your existing "business" account and open a "personal" account.

My son operates a phone plan for many family members along with several friends and had the payments set up as subscriptions; but somewhere along the way PayPal decided he was a "business" and changed his plan and began charging fees. He now opened a "personal" account and we are back to paying him using "friends & family"; but he has to keep track of getting paid.
