As always in my 32 5W project things change fast.
After see the Auburn ( 32 ? ) dash in Dick Wades 32 3W I was hooked.
The deepths is cool vs the flat 32 dash but I invested in get the Wings gauges ( plus restoration = $ ) and I has a Hollywood panel so I cant change that plus I like the 160 MPH and 8K tach and the Wings fit my timeline.
I had been on/off to use the Hoolywood panel before I saw the Auburn.
The std 32 dash will come down several inch with that panel and it never really look Ok and I has never been a fan to has the gauges in a row.
At LARS I bought a 32 ( think its a 32 its 43” wide Auburn )
Its always nice in a 32 to has a std 32 dash and after seen the big scoot 32 roadster ( gauges in a row ) it was stunning cool ( Yes, I seen it before ) but…
-So a open question, will I stick with the std dash and has a row of gauges or will the Auburn with the deep be even cooler less the Hollywood dash ?
Those panels is near identical in height.
I’m conservative on parts that fit my timeline but now I dont really care what guys was doing or not before, I go my way as its a hot rod.
I has some cool speed parts and most late 40’s but not ’just to much’ as one point it was Ardun heads, Scoot, Kinmount brakes and QC = was to much ) but its Lincoln ******, brakes, carbs, finned hi-comp head FH and hi-rise intake, Scintilla magnet, no quickchange but Halibrand magnesium banjo, 40’s style wheels, chop 3”, std gas tank, Okie Adams front axle.
Will be seen as a LA street racer very early 50’s ( my way see it )

-So back to dash, ideas ?

my opinion; no to the Hollywood Auburns are the "classic" hot rod gauge cluster but have three drawbacks 1) they can look big or heavy in a 32 dash and especially when the 32 dash is replaced by the Auburn dash, too large and deep. 2) every builder of a traditional 32 thinks they have to have one (kind of like Zephyr gears) 3) only one large opening, if a tach and speedo are wanted, one has to be placed outside of the cluster. go with the row of gauges in a 32 panel, you can run as many gauges as you desire and as long as the layout is symmetrical you will achieve more of a race car look which all hot rods try to emulate.

My favorite at the moment is the 1932 Studebaker cluster filled with black & white rear mount SW gauges

I've got a complete Auburn dash and insert in my deuce 3 window. It was almost a bolt in and looks fantastic. Got lucky and found another Auburn dash that had already been modified fit a 32 roadster and a nice insert. I think both of them look good and do not over power the interior. With Pat Pryor now stamping original Auburn inserts the rival the originals I dam sure wouldn't cut up the original Auburn dash to fit your 5 window. I' have a friend that used a 5 window top rail and had a talented metal shaper do the bottom exactly like the original Auburn. Only thing I had to do was put power motors on the cowl vents because the levers were useless. I also have a Hollywood panel full of SW gauges that has been fit into a sedan/5 window dash and my LARS prize a 31 Caddy dash and insert (Caddy fits great in a 32-34 Ford Pickup) Selling the Caddy and the Hollywood dash.

Here are several views of the Euro sedan dashes. Not really Hot Rod but I like the idea of glove boxes.Last pic is of a 32 Chrysler instrument panel.Perfect proportions for a '32 IMO.

The Auburn dash is 43" wide and the 32 dash is 40.5".
I'm not into use the std Auburn panel, it don't fit my S/W gauges, and I cant replace the Wings as to much money in them plus it's cool to has 160 MPH and 8K tach.
The Auburn is more prewar ( but ofcourse a very nice hot-rod panel )
I has been on and back on the Hollywood and gauge in a row ( as very racy ) and a 32 dash in a 32 coupe is classic.
I has not been into change dash ( ex 40 or 50's style dashes ) but when I saw Wades 3W it feelt so cool.
It would look odd maybe has that dash and and gauge in a row, but the cool thing on the Auburn is the deep feel.
