Before I break something. How do I remove the complete windshield with a regulator. The gasket around the windshield needs to be replaced and while at it will replace the gasket for the windshield glass at the same time. Thoughts appreciated, Thanks

Remove the regulator. Slow process. Unbolt hinges. The wshield has four screws that hold it together. These could be hard to remove. Then use a block of wood to tap the frame loose from the glass. Do this with the frame laying flat. You do plan on installing new glass?

When replacing the windshield frame gasket, be 100% certain ALL of the old gasket has been removed.
Start installing the new gasket at the four corners and then work between each pair of corners. Use spray glass cleaner to lubricate the gasket.

In case it helps, here's an illustration of the cross-section of the windshield frame. The diagram and part numbers are for a 1935/6 pickup and truck, but the same basic shape was also used in the cars. I've also attached a clip of a page from my book with more details regarding the windshield.
Hope this helps. Good luck and ask questions if you get stuck.

I did a 39 truck, seal leaked and was afraid the regulator was going to fail if I squeezed it more. When I restored it the speedometer was froze with the rust from the leak. Ended up gluing it shut with silicone.

I usually drill a 1/8" hole thru each hinge before taking out the screws; using a couple drill shanks in the holes during reinstallation makes quick work of getting it aligned.

If you can't get the two screws that hold the regulator arms to the windshield, just tap the pin out and deal with the screws when it is on the bench.

If you get repop frame screws compare the length; the last two times I bought them they were a little longer than the original screws. One bottomed out and created a crack.

The previous advice about getting every bit of the old seal out is the most important step of the job.
