31 Phaeton Barrett Jackson SOLD

I think this discussion is important, as over-inflated prices are detrimental to our hobby.

I hope that with this discussion we may warn any other people from buying cars at too high prices.

I pity the guy who thinks he bought a potential show winner and therefore paid as much as 68k, only to find out later when he gets the car home that it may perhaps not even be admitted to judging. I do not want anyone else to find themselves in that situation.

depends on what he's looking for.

if he's looking for a car that will do well in AACA judging and local-yokel general interst car shows, as well as impress all the unwashed with how much he can spend for a nice antique car, then he has likely done well.

I hope he's not looking for a car that will do well in MARC/MAFCA fine point judging without some (usually expensive) upgrades, because the photos reveal that this is not quite that car ;)

"NOT QUITE" ?? TRY, "NOT EVEN CLOSE"... It would not even make it through blue ribbon.. Advertised as a SHOW CAR ?? Where @ the local shopping Mall ??..

Been waiting for someone to post photos or even a link! guess I'll do some digging...

Boy, is that true, if anyone missed it the first time reread it. Bob
I agree!!

Something to think about...
The people who have the disposible income to spend at this auction view their purchases as a 'value'. "Value' can be defined in many ways. If they have earned their money and are willing to step up to the plate to pay for something, what does it matter if it isn't a perceived value to you? I am of the opinion this is only a down-turned economy if YOU let it be a down-turned economy!! It is NOT a down-turned economy for those who don't want it to be!! In everything we do, Success is Attitude! I personally don't see anything wrong with that man's $68k purchase if it is what he wants. Congrats to him.

Hmm, yeah 'attitude'! You guys probably wouldn't like my '30 roadster either, as it has the light switch at 11 o'clock too and an alternator and its roof has that 'kinda rock n roll' look going forward! Picky for only $68 K!
Wonder if he/she needs a place for IT to rest...slobber/drool:D

I definately like the car - VERY much. -But at that price ? and with those statements in the advertising ?

Well when you think about it,,, it is the right price for what you are getting. If it was a SHOW WINNER [MARC/MAFCA] then the price will be more then $90,000.00 and up.And if they said a restored car then i guess it would be ok "BUT" A potential show winner ,,thats where they went wrong!!!
