1931 Model A brake springs

HI;

Does anyone have a late 31 model a that was built in August or September with flat springs for the brake rods, the reason why I'm asking is because my 31 has them and it was built in late August or early September.

And my car has the flat springs but the wire ones came out in July of 31 so I'm just wondering if my car is a left over from the factory for the springs or not, or should mine be the wire as it should be as my engine was built in late May so it could be a August car or a early September car as some of the stuff on my car says early September.

But I Have no clue on the brake springs and that's why I'm asking on here to find out if it could be possible or not as I was told that, when the model a's were ending they were putting all of the left over parts on the cars no matter what year it was from.

Thanks Reggiedog

Hey Reggie. I'll answer your question first and then address the red highlighted part next.

The A-2503-A2 Brake Spring went thru several revisions beginning 07/18/31, then 07/24 and again on 7/29. Then again in September 03 & 09. It is generally understood that the wire Brake Springs were being phased in sometime in September, ...and more than likely in the latter part of September. Depending on the Branch that assembled your vehicle and what stock had already been allocated, it is more likely that your vehicle came with the flat springs.

Now, I realize that there is much misinformation and wives tales regarding assembly of Model-As, but you can rest assured that Ford never 'used up' parts inventory they had laying around. When a component was manufactured, the Engineering team already knew specifically which Branch or Depot it was to be used at, ...and even down to knowing which date that inventory would be depleted on before any superseded part would begin usage on the assy. line. The thing that is difficult for many to understand is the length of transportation time each of the different Branches experienced getting their inventory delivered. For that reason alone, a revised part may have been shipped to a Branch in Buffalo and to one in Denver on the same day yet the install date might be weeks apart. Depending on travel time and existing inventory, it is believable that the superseded part might not even be delivered to a Branch to the western Branches yet already being installed on the vehicle manufactured in Buffalo.

Brent,

My car was built in Milwaukee, WI. that I know for sure as I have researched that plant right down to the day to day stuff, as I found out that the Benson Research Center is wrong on the start up date as I know when the plant opened for real.

And the Benson is wrong on that for that plant anyway and who knows how many others they are wrong on, as I just research the Milwaukee Plant and not the rest of the plants.

But getting back to the brake springs I have the flat springs and as you are telling me those are the correct ones for my car no matter if it was built in August or September, as I don't have a exact date on the car but just a close date to it as I probably will never know the exact date on the car.

And Brent where are you getting this from as I would like to know as I probably have the book you never know.

The dates come from the EIs and the dates the prints were revised. Not in a book. Not sure what you mean when you say that Benson is wrong.

Brent,

I found that out when I was doing research on the Milwaukee Ford Plant as they have down that it opened on August 1, 1916 when it actually opened January 17, 1916 and was building cars by February 1, 1916, in the new plant on Prospect Ave and so they are wrong as I have the production figures for the U.S. Ford Plants and I also have the newspaper clippings of the opening for the Milwaukee Plant on Prospect Ave.

P.S. What is EI's and how can I get those figures as that would be nice thing to have on hand if you know what I mean.

Brent,

So can you please tell as to where I can get the EI's figures from or not,
Please let me know asap.
