1955 Ford Speedometer not working,

When I start my car, the speedometer is at zero, but as soon as I start to move, it pegs up to 120 and stays there until I stop. Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, zoopie

I bet the spring is broken in it.

Not necessarily. I've had a couple '55 Speedometers stick at 120 as soon as you get going.
I have always fixed it by removing the instrument cluster, then taking the speedo out and lubricating the front and rear bushings of the needle shaft. Doing this has added years of life to both my '55 speedo's without costing a cent.
However, if you are fearful of messing something up, there are several automotive instrument service outfits that can repair your speedo and many do cosmetic restoration of your instruments also.
If you think you'd be better off shipping it out, try Bob's speedometer or Williamsons instruments Inc.
