It's been in the trunk of the '35 Ford for decades. Just laying there. Thank you.

Could it be a piece to set on the rear bumper when carrying large items in the trunk or some such device? I picture the outboard notches fitting over the tail lights and the rectangular notch in the center so the license plate shows? I don't know anything about '35 cars except that they are beautiful, so it's a wild guess.
 
Whoabillygoats. I would have never ever placed it there. I'm going to go out to the garage when the temp drops below 100. Thank you!
