40 Pickup 4" Drop

'40 we worked on had a front end with the same Magnum axle and Posies spring on it along with CE dropped arms. The tie rod & drag link cleared OK.

Pete & Jakes list the old CE dropped arms on their website:

https://www.peteandjakes.com/parts/part-1108d-bolt-through-deep-drop-steering-arms-1935-48-pair/

Or you could always heat and bend the ones you have; they are supposed to be forged.

I called Pete & Jakes today. The informed me that although they purchased the rights to the CE parts, due to the cost they have not reproduced those arms. So they are unobtanium.

They did have a recommendation for a dropped tie rod from Roadster Supply

RSC-36279,
https://www.roadstersupply.com/11-16-18-Dropped-Ford-Tie-Rod-Ends-p/rsc-36279.htm

Which they said I could blend with a regular drop arm to get the clearance I need. However this would require me shortening both the drag link and the tie rod.

As for bending the arm, I'm not opposed to that, but in my mind that would give me more clearance on the drag link, but almost no change at the tie rod.

I'm glad I ordered most of my parts already. I don't believe you will be able to build a 40 pickup pretty soon. The parts are drying up fast.

Sorry to see a comment about dropped front ends. Dropped front ends have been part of the old car hobby since the beginning. Comments like he made make me happy I went the direction I did 60 years ago. I've been lucky to have had lots of 32's and other cars over the years, all with the teenage dump. I been screwing up mostly deuces for over 50 years.

The teenage low front end is better off on the HAMB.

This site has always discussed modifications to old Fords. At 79 I'm well beyond a teenager and I'm still putting dropped axles in old Fords. The nice thing about this site is if you see a post that you don't like or not agree with, you can pass it up and no need to make a post.
